About Me / My role at Cameron Elementary
Hello, and welcome to my website. My name is Monica Helms and I am an Instructional Aide at Cameron Elementary School. I am responsible for Math Block (Math Lab) for 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade; when your son/daughter rotates to their different activities (Art, Computer, Music, P.E.), they will come to my room for fifty minutes (every six days) in order to receive extra teaching in math. Every morning I have one class of 3rd grade, one class of 4th grade, and one class of 5th grade, each for fifty minutes. This is the Morning Block. Each afternoon I have a different class of 3rd grade, 4th grade, and 5th grade, each for thirty minutes. This is the Afternoon Tutorial Block and not ALL students come to me during this time because some of them are pulled out for other tutorials. After I finish with the afternoon classes I assist in Special Ed.
In one of my certification courses I read this quote: "I want to be the best teacher you ever had. I expect you to be the best students I have ever had." This is so true and it speaks volumes to me. I personally want to be the best teacher, and I expect your sons/daughters to be the best students! I desire for each student to reach for the sky in their education.
I was born in Cameron and raised in a small rural community on the outskirts of Cameron. I graduated from Yoe High School in 1998 and then attended Texas A&M University. In May 2003 I graduated from Texas A&M with my bachelor's degree in Agricultural Development. In November 2009 I decided to obtain my teaching certification, and am currently doing so through iteachTEXAS. From April 2006 - August 2010 I worked in the school at a teenage boys ranch outside of Cameron. I served as the Assistant Curriculum Coordinator and also as a tutor for the young men. In August 2010 I resigned from the ranch in order to go forth with my teaching career. I substitute taught for the 2010 - 2011 school year and now I am proud to be a full-time employee at Cameron Elementary! My goal is to move from my aide position into a teaching position in the near future.
My husband and I do not yet have children; we have two dogs and one cat. We love our pets!! Outside of school, I am an active member of my church and I enjoy spending time with family and friends, reading, watching movies, and cooking.
Thank you for taking the time to visit my site and come back as often as you'd like! I look forward to working with you and your child.
